Laser Hair Removal For Men's Privates (Including My Personal Experience)
Have you ever found yourself wondering, "Do men really use laser hair removal on their private parts?" It's a thought that may have crossed your mind while contorting yourself in the shower, trying to shave those hard-to-reach areas.
Well, my hairy friend, if you've ever pondered this question, then this article is for you. We're about to dive into the world of male grooming and give you all the information you need to know about achieving a hair-free and carefree life below the belt.
First, it's important to understand the different terms and techniques used. Let's begin with a vocabulary lesson...
Brazilian: This term refers to the removal of hair from the pubic area, perineum, and anus. Traditionally accomplished through waxing, laser hair removal is a popular option today.
Manzilian: You guessed it, a common name for the male counter-treatment to the Brazilian. However, at Flycatcher, we call it the Sunset Strip (because it sounds way cooler).
The Hollywood: This is Flycatcher's option for the Austinite who is all-in on reducing pubic hair along with the hair on their buttocks.
Here's a handy visual representing Flycatcher's two treatment options:
The benefits of laser hair removal for men's privates are many:
- No more sweat, odor, and itchiness from your pubes
- No more, "Damn, I forgot to shave", when getting intimate
- No more painful cuts and nicks
- How about the immense amount of time saved by not having to shave your nuts every few weeks?
- No more awkward positions in the shower or being caught with your leg up on the counter: "Hey Chris, watcha doin' there?!?!"
- Laser treatment is a helluva lot less painful compared to waxing
- Your partner will love it (probably)
How to Remove Pubic Hair from Private Parts Permanently
When I was first considering laser hair removal for my private parts the imagery that immediately came to mind was James Bond in Goldfinger's lair with his red-hot laser slowly advancing on OO7's manhood.
Don't fret. 21st-century energy-based treatments like laser hair removal are completely safe and relatively pain-free. We're not gonna go Goldfinger on you.
The process of laser hair removal involves the use of a specialized laser that emits a concentrated beam of light. This light is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicles, heating them up and ultimately damaging their ability to produce new hair. Over time, the treated hair follicles will become dormant, resulting in a significant reduction in hair growth in the treated area.
Advanced laser technologies have been developed to ensure minimal discomfort during the treatment process. Cooling tips and vacuum-assisted technology help to alleviate any potential pain or discomfort, making the procedure well-tolerated by most individuals. A topical numbing cream can also be used if you choose.
At Flycatcher our licensed laser hair removal professionals use the LightSheer QUATTRO workstation from Lumenis. This device is designed specifically for laser hair removal.
All of our technicians are licensed with the Texas Department of Labor and Regulations, receive ongoing training, and have extensive experience treating men. Rest assured, your delicate man bits will be in comfortable and competent hands (literally).
My personal experience with laser hair removal on my privates
Let's get right to the pain factor because this is what men care about most when it comes to lasering their privates. There will be some gnashing of the teeth- after all, you have a pulsing laser on your anus and shaft. Let me explain...
The treatment will be the most uncomfortable where your pubic hair is the most coarse. For me, the worst was at the base of my penis. Treatment on my scrotum and shaft was less painful.
It will also be a little more painful as your pubic hair is "thinned out" over multiple treatments because fewer follicles are receiving all the energy. This is one reason it is important to have an experienced technician who understands how to adjust the energy levels over your multiple treatments. Side note: This is another reason to stick with one practice/provider rather than bouncing around using Groupons.
I would estimate that a third to half of all pulses were uncomfortable. It's like a little shock or zap. Not unbearable by any means, just uncomfortable. The actual treatment will only last about 10 to 15 minutes. Prepare for at least 100 pulses spaced a couple of seconds apart. The speed depends on your technician and your comfort level. She/he will move at the speed you prefer (and offer breaks).
You can expect to be in and out of the treatment room in about 25 minutes for the Sunset Strip (the full Hollywood treatment will be more like 35 minutes).
There may be a little redness immediately after but this will go away within an hour or so.
Many medspas and laser hair removal practices will sell men a series of six treatments. You will need six to eight treatments to achieve 80-90% reduction of your pubic hair. Six treatments can really thin it out, as in my case, but it won't remove your pubic hair permanently. The total number of treatments needed will depend on your goal and on how your body responds.
You will also need an annual "maintenance" treatment if you're going for the permanent look.
To this point, I've personally used laser hair removal to thin out my pubic hair to allow for easier maintenance and a more "well-kept" look. I haven't gone the "permanent" route.
Other Frequently Asked Questions about laser hair removal for men's privates
How much does laser hair removal cost for men's privates?
Hop over to our pricing page to use our handy laser hair removal pricing calculator. You'll find our rates to be very competitive for the Austin and central Texas market.
New customers get their first treatment for only $75, whether you're getting a Sunset Strip or the full Hollywood treatment.
If you're happy with the results you can then purchase a series of six Sunset Strip treatments for only $675. If you want to treat your buttocks at the same time, the cost for a series of six Hollywood treatments would be $900.
Is laser hair removal for men's privates safe?
When it comes to the safety of laser hair removal for men, one common question is whether it can cause cancer. The short answer is no. According to the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, there is no evidence that laser hair removal causes cancer or any other long-term health problems.
Does laser hair removal affect male fertility?
Studies have shown that laser hair removal does not affect male fertility. The laser energy used for hair removal is targeted to the hair follicle and does not penetrate deep enough into the skin to affect reproductive organs or sperm production.
How do I prevent ingrown hairs on my penis and scrotum?
Some individuals can get ingrown hairs after laser hair removal treatment, especially after the first three treatments. It is best practice to use an exfoliator or body scrub no earlier than three days post-treatment. This will help reduce the chances of ingrown hairs on your private parts.
Will I be limited after laser hair removal treatment?
Avoid hot showers, pools/spas, and saunas for 48 hours. The same goes for strenuous exercise including sex (I know, keep it in your pants for a couple of days). You're trying to avoid heating up the area and sweating.
Can I get waxed in between laser hair removal treatments?
You should always wait at least 45 days after waxing before receiving a laser hair removal treatment. We suggest sticking with your laser hair removal schedule and avoid waxing in between sessions. Laser treatments are targeting the hair follicles in the anagen phase of growth which is why you cycle through treatments six weeks apart. Waxing is essentially ripping all of your pubic hairs from their follicles regardless of growth stage. This is very damaging and counterproductive to the more targeted and effective approach of laser hair removal.
What if I'm using hair growth supplements and/or getting testosterone treatments?
Hair growth supplements and testosterone can interfere with the effectiveness of laser hair removal treatments by stimulating hair growth. These supplements and treatments can counteract the reduction in hair growth that laser hair removal aims to achieve. It is important to disclose the use of any hair growth supplements or testosterone treatments to our providers during your consultation and prior to treatment.
In closing
